TETL Members Win National Recognitions

TETL Congratulates Dr. Kellie Wilks, Ector County ISD, and Aledo ISD—Winners of National Education Technology Awards

For Immediate Release

Texas Education Technology Leaders (TETL) has announced that two of its member districts—Ector County ISD and Aledo ISD—are the winners of national education technology awards from the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN).

Dr. Kellie Wilks, Chief Technology Officer of Ector County ISD, has been named the CTO of the Year, and Aledo ISD, led by Executive Director of Technology Brooks Moore, is the winner of the District Team Leadership Award.

Ector County ISD and Aledo ISD are both institutional members of TETL. Each year, TETL recognizes individuals and school districts that demonstrate outstanding vision in the use of information technologies to improve student learning. Dr. Wilks and Aledo ISD previously received statewide awards, the TETL Grace Hopper Award and TETL Team Award, respectively, before being nominated by the association for the national awards.

In recognizing the awards, Dianne Borreson, Executive Director of TETL, said, “Congratulations to Kellie and Brooks, and their teams at Ector ISD and Aledo ISD, on these well-deserved national honors which highlight the critical work done in educating and protecting Texas schoolchildren. This is a proud day for our membership and for public schools in Texas!”

CoSN’s Withrow CTO of the Year Award recognizes an exceptional district CTO who serves as a true technology champion and whose leadership has been transformative for their school system. Dr. Kellie Wilks has had a long-standing history of supporting Ector Country ISD. She was involved in the Raising Blended Learners Grant, the Math Innovation Zones Grant, and initiatives to bridge the digital divide. She is a collaborative leader who has developed partnerships in the community that encourage shared best practices and provide opportunities for all students.

“It’s nice to be recognized,” said Wilks, Chief Technology Officer, ECISD. “I humbly accept this award on behalf of the whole Technology division. Everyone I have worked with has contributed to my success and to the things I have been able to do.”

The CoSN District Team Leadership Award honors a district leadership team for its transformative impact on student learning with technology. Aledo ISD has taken a holistic approach to improving student learning opportunities and accessibility through technology, gathering input from students, teachers and families. By working collaboratively, engaging in ongoing professional development and implementing innovative teaching strategies, the team has been able to provide students with new and engaging educational opportunities that would not have been possible without the use of technology.

“We are honored to earn the CoSN District Team Leadership Award,” said Brooks Moore, Executive Director of Technology, Aledo ISD. “We take our work to keep our students safe and connected very seriously and believe as a team that we can impact our students’ learning daily. Our goal is for our students to have exceptional experiences, and we are proud to be the team behind the scenes ensuring that.”

The awards were given earlier this month at the Annual CoSN Conference in Miami.
